W.P. (Dubby) Paul Jr., age 81 of Whiteway, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Pastor Rudy Rios officiating. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery will follow. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Dubby was born on December 12, 1944 in Temple, Texas to W.P. and Mattie Hellen Altum Paul. He graduated from Flat High School in May 1963. He married Martha Ann White on June 5, 1964, and they spent most of their married life in Gatesville and later Whiteway, Texas. Dubby served six years in the Army National Guard, and was discharged in Lake Worth, Texas as an E-5 on March 9, 1972. He began his civil service career at Ft. Hood, Texas with the United States Army as an Electronics Mechanic. He spent several years working for III Corps and the Ft. Hood Installation Aviation Office as a quality assurance inspector for flight simulator maintenance contracts. He retired after thirty-one years in April 2001 as an Electronics Technician GS-12. He retired at Robert Gray Army Airfield from the Air Traffic Control Air Navigational Aids (Nav. Aids) Unit. He maintained airport radar as well as ground communications and landing systems. Over the years he received many awards for his service.
Dubby loved spending time with his five grandchildren. They were the lights of his life. He called them his grandblessings. Dubby was a member of Gateway Baptist Church in Gatesville and loved to sing the bass part in a gospel quartet. He was able to do that for many years with a family radio program on radio station KCLW in Hamilton, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmothers; his infant son, Michael Lynn Paul; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
W.P. is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Martha Paul; his son, Shawn Paul and wife Anita of Whiteway; his daughter, Cheri Rios and husband Rudy of Texas City; his grandchildren, Dustin Rios and wife Peyton, Brandon Rios and wife Victoria, and Sidney Rios, all of Texas City, and Zachary and Mattie Paul of Whiteway; his great-grandchild, Vivian Lynn Rios of Texas City; and his sister, Johnnie Williams of Gatesville.
