Winona Louise Gossett, age 87 of Gatesville, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2026.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Bragdon officiating. Interment will follow at Flint Creek Cemetery. Visitation with the family is scheduled from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
Winona was born on February 20, 1939 to the late Elbert and Estella (Ray) Stuteville at the Grove, Texas. She grew up in and around the Flat Community and attended Flat High School. She later attended McLennan Community College and earned her Real Estate License. Growing up, she was an active member of Flat Baptist Church and was baptized there at the age of 9. On June 30, 1955, she married James “Jim” Gossett and together they shared over 70 years of marriage and raised four children. Winona worked as a teacher’s aide with the Texas Youth Council, sold real estate and spent many years employed at Leaird’s Furniture Store.
Winona and Jim enjoyed traveling together and creating lasting family memories. She had a passion for interior design and took great joy in decorating her home, especially during the holidays.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Gossett; her parents; her sisters, Alma Minshew and her husband Royal Gene “Rocky” Minshew Sr., Ima Gene Altum and her husband Gail, Bonnie Sue Sexton and her husband Billy Carl; and her nephew, Royal Gene “Gene” Minshew Jr.
Winona is survived by her four children, Johnny Gossett and wife Luanna, Kim Vandine and husband Robert, Ray Gossett and wife Tammye, and Del Gossett; eight grandchildren, Clement Gossett, Nikki West and husband Jimmy, Robin Fox and husband Kiel, Lera Williams and husband Tye, Ragen Polansky and husband Rob, Chelsae Desormeaux and husband Justin, Megan Threadgill and husband Jason, and Bailey Griffin and husband Justin; sister, Betty Sharon Derrick, Fifteen Great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a huge Thank You to the Meadows and Amedisys Hospice for their special loving care over the past month, as well as Mom’s caring friends and family members.
