William "Bill" Justus Hix

Bill Hix, age 79 of Gatesville, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

William “Bill” Justus Hix was born October 30, 1946 to the late W.T. and Harriett Sebastian Hix in Gatesville, Texas. He attended school in Gatesville, graduating from Gatesville High School in 1965, where he excelled in both football and basketball. After graduation, he attended the University of Texas graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1969. He then attended Baylor Law School, graduating with his law degree in 1971. He remained an avid Texas Longhorn football fan and always enjoyed watching the Lady Baylor Bear basketball team.

He married Sue Yows in 1969. They made their home in Gatesville raising two children, April Ann and Samuel Justus.

Bill owned and operated Hix Law Office, and Brown Abstract Company, where he served the Gatesville community for over 54 years. He specialized in family law and continued to offer legal and personal advice to anyone who would listen.

Bill was a cowboy, a rancher, an extraordinary supervisor, Dr. Golf, and a good friend. He was a proud grandfather and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play anything. Some of his happiest times were sitting on the porch solving the world’s problems, working at Mount Rainier, traveling, snow skiing, going to the lake catfishing, and golfing with great friends.

Bill is survived by his daughter, April and partner Jamie; his son, Sam and wife Tera; his grandchildren, Randi Johnson and husband Jeff, Riley Register and husband Reese, Lucas Farney, Riot Justus, Ruckus, and Payne Hix; and his cousin, Locie Sebastian-Boggs.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Bill’s life from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at his home.
