Wanda Turk

Wanda Turk, age 70 of Gatesville, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024 at her residence.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Scott’s Funeral Home.

Wanda was born on June 6, 1953 to the late Herm and Rosie Shoenewolf Cummings in Coryell County, and was welcomed home by her four sisters, Jeanne, Joyce, Patricia and Yvonne. She grew up and attended school in Gatesville, graduating from Gatesville High School in 1972.  She was baptized into the faith during her teenage years.  She married Ronnie Clark Turk on March 6, 1976 and the two made their home in Waco before permanently moving to Gatesville.  They had one child together, Karie Leigh Turk.  Wanda worked at Deck Boat before starting a career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.  She retired in 2023 with over forty years of dedicated service.  She loved life and loved her family.  Her two grandsons and their father were the apple of her eye.  In addition to her love of taking care of her yard, she also enjoyed listening to music, especially the old-style music.   She still played the old 45 records and loved to dance.  She was very artistic and wrote many poems.  Her husband, Ronnie often referred to her as the CEO of the Turk family.     

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Dorothy; sisters, Jeanne Hayes, Pat Worthington, and Yvonne Strickland; and nephews, Brandon Strickland and Trey Sandig.

She is survived by her husband, Ronnie, of 48 years; daughter, Karie McNiel; grandsons, Cody and Caden McNiel; sister, Joyce Sandig; son-in-law, Jamie McNiel; sister-in-law, Frances Fortenberry; brothers-in-law, Cecil Strickland, and Frank Turk Jr. and wife, Rose; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  

Wanda’s family wishes to give special thanks to her best friend, Karen Lee, and all the medical staff that helped with her care.
