Wanda Jean Brown, age 72, of Gatesville, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2026.

Wanda was born September 4, 1954, in Washington, Indiana, to the late William and Bonnie Atha Ahlert. She was the only daughter among five boys. She grew up and attended school in Washington, Indiana. In 1977, she married Michael Albin, and together they made their home in Gatesville.

Wanda worked as a nurse’s aide at both Rotunda Nursing Home and Hillside Medical Lodge in Gatesville before beginning her career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a Correctional Officer in 2006.

Wanda loved her family and especially cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching them participate in their many activities and was always proud to be a part of their lives.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Donald Ahlert and Michael Ahlert.

She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie DeLaCruz and husband Martin, Toni Heaton and husband Luther, and Victoria Ocampo; brothers, Fred Ahlert, Robert Ahlert, and William Ahlert; grandchildren, Jacob, Ashton, Monica, Ryan, Cynthia, Vanessa, Alexis, Coral, Jamica, Docc, Pamela, Mary, Michael, Chester, Michelle, Mario, and Catalina; and 30 great-grandchildren.
