Virgie Mae Phillips Shinault passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, while in Parkview Hospital in Mexia.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, at Turnersville Cemetery in Turnersville with Pastor Larry Williams officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 -12:30 at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville prior to the service.
Virgie was born on October 29, 1930, to the late Robert Phillips and Sadie Bird Kirby. She was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas and was raised in both Hot Springs and Gatesville, Texas. In 1952, Virgie married Carlis Shinault and they were married 47 years until his passing in 1999. Virgie and Carlis raised their four children in Mart, Texas where she was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Virgie enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening, and playing BINGO. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Virgie was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, O.J. Phillips, Dean Phillips, Bobby Phillips, and Patty Phillips.
She is survived by her children, Carl Brasier and wife, Katherine of Estill Springs, Tennessee; Carol Lingo of Palestine; Mary Gillentine and husband, Charles of Waco; and Cindy Hampton and husband, Donald of Mart; eight grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren.
