Travis Moore, age 83 of Gatesville, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Pastor Charles McKamie officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Smith King Cemetery.
Travis Lee Moore was born on June 8, 1940 to the late Jimmie and Pearl Jones Moore in Coryell County. He was born at home and was the first baby that Dr. E.E. Lowrey delivered. He was also the first grandchild born to the late J.W. and Ellen Jones of Flat. He grew up on the Royalty Farm in Mound and attended school in Flat. He graduated from Lovington High School in Lovington, New Mexico in 1959.
He moved back to Mound, Texas with his family in 1960 and joined the Texas National Guard, 49th Division, the following year. He was activated during the Berlin Crisis and was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He was honorably discharged from the Texas National Guard in February of 1967. He attended Durham College in 1965, receiving a certification in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Heating Technology. This certification led him to Sears in Waco, where he worked in Appliance Services from 1968 until 1975. He then spent the remainder of his career working as a Civil Service employee for Fort Hood in AC mechanical repair until his retirement in 2003. He was a current member of the Gatesville Masonic Lodge #197 A.F. & A. M., and the Scottish Rite. He was also a faithful volunteer for Gatesville’s Food For Families Drive for the past 20 years. He was baptized in the Baptist faith in 1959 and attended the First Baptist Church of Flat.
Travis was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronald Dean Moore, and Jimmie Doyle Moore; and sister, Nancy Ellen Harris.
He is survived by his son, Mark Moore and wife, Melanie of Shore Acres; daughter, Alisa Gregory and husband, Philip of Gatesville; grandchildren, Lillie Moore, Luke Gregory, and Clayton Gregory; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Gatesville Care Center, 105 N. 7th Street, Gatesville, TX 76528.
