Stanley Justiss Sadler, age 88, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, in Temple, Texas.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2026, at the Presbyterian Church of Gatesville, with Rev. Dr. Buddy Wheat officiating.
Born in Gatesville, Texas on December 12, 1937, he was the fifth of five children. He attended school in Gatesville, where he served as the Marching Band’s mascot at age four. He attended the University of Texas for one year, Texas Christian University for one semester before later graduating from the University of Texas.
Following graduation, Stanley began his career with Friend & Piper, an interior design firm in Shreveport, Louisiana. Stanley’s talent and notoriety launched him into his own business, Stanley Sadler Co. in Houston, Texas. For more than four decades, he worked as an interior designer and antiques dealer, creating beautiful homes throughout Houston and across Texas, as well as vacation homes in Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming, and projects throughout the nation. His work was featured in publications including Texas Homes. Yet Stanley could just as easily help a young couple just starting out, who were on a shoestring budget, transforming their apartment into a jewel box of beauty and comfort.
Stanley enjoyed traveling, going mostly to England and France on buying trips. He enjoyed cooking and especially baking pies, cookies and cakes, often sharing with neighbors and friends. Stanley loved playing Bridge and cards. He was a gifted pianist and composer. He enjoyed playing his Steinway concert grand piano until the very end, entertaining family and friends and generally bringing joy to all who listened.
Stanley was a cherished member of the Sadler Family, faithfully keeping in touch with siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. He was often described as the glue that held the family together, always showing interest in the lives of others and offering encouragement. He will be deeply missed.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Calhoun Sadler, Sr. and Sallie Ann Justiss Sadler; sisters, Janet Sadler Reifslager and husband Walter, and Suzanne Sadler Wilson; brother, Chester Calhoun Sadler, Jr.; and brother-in-law, William Houston Vaughan.
He is survived by his sister, Cynthia Sadler Vaughan; his sister-in-law, Gaye Pitts Sadler; his nieces, Virginia Bauchman Musselman (John), Janet Bauchman Parker, Becky Wilson Shaia (Richard), Sally Vaughan West (Rob), Homoiselle Fay Sadler Bujosa (Carlos), and Sallie Justiss Sadler; his nephews, Charles Lowry Wilson (Geri), Barry Sadler Wilson (Cindy), Mark James Bauchman, Chester Calhoun Sadler, III (Karen), Michael Reifslager (Patsy), William Houston Vaughan, Jr. (Kathryn), and Todd Sadler Vaughan; eight great nieces, including Goddaughter, Homoiselle Haden Bujosa; nine great nephews; and even some great-great nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind numerous and very dear first and second cousins, and many dear friends.
