Born on March 3, 1943, in Temple, Texas, Sharon was the daughter of L.A. and Noma Dixon. She graduated from Temple High School in 1961 and continued her education at Temple Junior College. She later earned her teaching degree from Mary Hardin-Baylor in 1965, laying the foundation for a lifelong commitment to education. She married John “Bob” Meharg on April 9, 1966. However, her passion for teaching called her back, and in 1988 she resumed her career at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Hackberry Unit. She continued to educate and inspire until her retirement in 2003.

Beyond the classroom, Sharon was deeply involved in her community. She served on the City of Gatesville Planning and Zoning Committee and served on the Gatesville Independent School District Education Foundation, reflecting her enduring commitment to civic engagement and educational advancement.

Sharon and her husband, Bob Meharg, were founding members of Trinity Baptist Church in Gatesville, where they remained active members throughout their lives. Their shared faith and dedication to their church community were central to their lives together.
