Ronnie Doyle Rhodes

Ronnie Doyle Rhodes, 80, of Gatesville, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Scott’s Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Crosby officiating. The family will welcome visitors one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Ronnie was a man whose kindness and humor left a lasting mark on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and loved, whether through a quick joke that lightened the mood or a steady presence through difficult times. His laughter was easy and often contagious, a true reflection of a heart that was always open and generous. You wouldn’t be able to spend an hour in his house without hearing his laugh or some song he made up on the spot.

Ronnie began his career at Black’s Grocery before spending 38 years with the U.S. Postal Service, where he earned respect and admiration from coworkers due to his reliability and good humor. He was also deeply committed to his community and to the children around him, spending a decade coaching little league baseball. He loved working with kids, and they loved him right back. His twin great-nephews, Barrett and Oliver Coleman, were among his biggest fans. They couldn’t pass his house without begging to stop in for a visit, and Ronnie was always there with a smile.

A member of the Gatesville Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, Ronnie’s faith and commitment to his community were also reflected in his years of service as a Sunday school teacher, where his words often resonated with the people who heard them. His strong faith inspired many, and it likely helped fuel his own unstoppable fighting spirit throughout his life.

Ronnie is survived by his loving wife, Sharon, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and unwavering companionship. December 3rd of this year would have marked their 60th wedding anniversary. He was a proud and devoted father to his two sons, Steve and his wife Kim, and Casey and his wife Tabitha. His greatest joy came from being “PawPaw” to his grandchildren - Marshall, Blake and his wife Meg, and Baylee and her spouse Ven - who brought him endless pride and happiness. He is also survived by his sisters, Cheryl Palmer and Kim and her husband Curtis McLearen, and his brother C.W. Rhodes, with whom he shared a love for fishing.

He was preceded in death by his sister Mildred J. Howell, his parents Clara V and Marshall Rhodes, and his sister-in-law Annette Ingram.

In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Ronnie is also survived by numerous nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great-nephews, as well as his spoiled rotten puppy Rascal, who is truly one of the family.

Whether spending time with his family, cracking a well-timed joke, or lending a helping hand to those in need, Ronnie lived a life rooted in love and integrity. His warmth, wisdom, and wit will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Rest easy, Ronnie. Your light lives on in every heart you touched.
