Ronald Dean Compton passed away on September 2nd, 2025, at The Meadows at Coryell Memorial Hospital after days spent with his family. A service celebrating Ron’s life will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Saturday, September 6th at 10 a.m. Reception to follow in the Aaron Center.
Ronald was born in Concord, California in 1944, the youngest son of Hester and Cleveland Compton. He was raised in Alaska with his two brothers Walter & Larry and two sisters Janet and Terry by his mother Hester and stepfather Don Fitzgerald. He enjoyed duck hunting with his brothers and time at his family cabin when he wasn’t in school.
Ron met Gweneth in Anchorage in 1972, and they were married shortly thereafter. They had two children, Charles and Elizabeth, who they raised across the country in various locations, predominantly in the pacific northwest and the southwest. He was a skilled telecommunications technician who moved his way up through the industry over the course of his career, eventually retiring in 2014.
After retiring to Gatesville, Texas, he became an active member in the community. As a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, he was a driving force in re-establishing their chapter of the Knights of Columbus. As part of that mission, he frequently volunteered at food banks in both Gatesville and Hamilton. He was also a member of The Exchange Club and The American Legion.
Ron will be remembered by his local family, wife Gwen, brother Walter, sister-in-law Marcia, and their two daughters Karie Bartlett and Carmen Lusher (and their families). He also is remembered by his children Charles Compton and Elizabeth Kerl, and grandchildren Amanda, Ardan, Hazel, Maddie, and Sarah (and all their spouses) who live in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
