Roger Herring

Roger L. Herring was born on October 10, 1940 and passed away in Gatesville on May 17, 2023, to go be with his Lord and Savior. He lived a life full of love. If you knew him, you knew he was full of inappropriate jokes, great advice, tons of knowledge, and lots of sales pitches. He could sell you a dead plant, by his convincing. He was one of heck of a salesman most of his life and he loved exactly that. He eventually started his own business, that he ran for many years with his boys. He was proud of his kids, all of them. He loved and he loved hard, and his biggest joy was family and loved getting everyone together to have a good time. Rog loved his late-night domino games with his friends from down the street and when the grandkids came over to play. He was especially fond of his great grandson, Dru. He lit up Rog’s eyes when he was with him, wanting his chocolates and all the money out of his wallet. They were all very special times for him.  He loved to travel with Sharon, and they did so much of it during his time here. What a blessing it was for him to see all the amazing places he did. Rog also loved to gamble and watch sports. He was the greatest man and will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ethyl Thomas and John Thomas of Gatesville and several brothers and sisters.

Roger is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon Herring; sons, Sonny Herring and wife, Rachael of Wimberley, Joey Herring and wife, Michelle of Dripping Springs; grandchildren, Krystalle and Jennifer Gilder, Tripp and Ashley Herring, Ty Lambright and Haylee Herring and Alec Bottoms; and a great grandson, Roger (Dru) Herring, IV.
