Robert Morris Thrasher, Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 30, 2026. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas with military honors. The family will receive visitors from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19 at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville.

Bobby was born on March 4, 1950, in Rosebud, Texas to the late Robert and Betty Thrasher. Bobby graduated from Gatesville High School where he formed many of the friendships and lasting memories that remained a meaningful part of his life. Bobby served in the United States Air Force from 1969-1973 as a Sergeant for a Security Squadron and as a Morse Code Operator (R20751). He married Tammi Tatum Thrasher in 1979, and they made their home in Gatesville. From 1973-1984, Bobby worked in Civil Service as a radio operator and repairman for the Department of the Army at Fort Hood. In 2005, he retired from the United States Postal Service after 21 years of service as a Postal Route Carrier for the City of Gatesville.

Bobby was, at heart, a simple man, and a genuinely good man. He lived his life in his own way, never pretending to be someone he wasn’t. He was honest, straightforward, and never afraid to speak his mind. Anyone who knew Bobby well would understand that about him… and likely have a story or two to tell about it. His honesty and strong personality were simply part of who he was, and those who loved him wouldn’t have wanted him any other way.

Bobby found joy in the simple things in life and especially enjoyed spending time outdoors. He had a deep love for bass fishing, particularly tournament fishing, where he enjoyed not only the competition but also the camaraderie and time spent on the water. Some of his happiest fishing memories were made alongside his son, Jeff. Bobby always looked forward to the two of them heading out on the water together, sharing their love of fishing… and, of course, debating over whose fishing lure was the right one. Their friendly debates over which lure would catch the most fish were just part of the fun, and those moments of laughter, competition, and time together will be treasured by Jeff and the entire family.

Bobby treasured the simple routine of gathering each morning for a cup of coffee with his good friends. Those morning coffee conversations, filled with laughter, stories, opinions, and fellowship, were a familiar and special part of his life.

Family was especially important to Bobby. He cherished the time he spent with those he loved and created memories that his family will carry with them for years to come. He did not need a complicated life to be happy. He appreciated good friends, family, a cup of coffee, time outdoors, a fishing rod in his hand, and the freedom to live life on his own terms. Bobby will be remembered for his straightforward nature, his strong opinions, his love of fishing and golf, his loyalty to those he cared about, and, most of all, for the countless memories and moments of laughter he shared with the people he loved.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Morris and Betty Ann Tapman Thrasher; grandparents, Frank Berkett Thrasher, Nettie Grace Bailey, Harry Tapman and Tommy Little Tapman; and uncles, Ret. USAF Col. Thomas Frank Tapman and Jimmy Jobe

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Tammi Tatum Thrasher; son, Jeffery Todd Thrasher and wife, Cheri; step-son, Casey Lee Johnson; brother, Dr. Michael T. Thrasher and wife, Patti; grandchildren, Trevor Thrasher, Tristan Fletcher and wife, Kaylan, Lanie Keen and husband, Devin, Lauren “Lolo” Dyer, and Parker Floyd; great grandchildren, Wolfgang Oziah Floyd, Grady Fletcher, Vayden Keen and Veryn Keen; nephew, Aaron Michael Thrasher and wife, Maayan; aunts, Charlene Tapman and Peggy Jobe; cousins, Trey Thomas Trewitt Tapman, Tamara Ann Tapman and Jaylynn Jobe, Jeff’s mom, Mikie Cummings and numerous nieces and nephews.
