Rickey Dean Mathews

Rickey Dean Mathews, age 67 of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Turnersville Cemetery.

Rickey was born on July 11, 1959 in Gatesville, Texas to the late Robert “Bob” and Martha Spradley Mathews. He grew up and attended school in Gatesville, graduating from Gatesville High School in 1977. He worked for several years at Rocketdyne in McGregor before attending Roosevelt Warm Springs College in Gonzales, Texas. He later transferred to the University of Texas at Austin, where he pursued a degree in computer science.

In the mid-1980s, Rickey began working for the Gatesville Country Club, where he was instrumental in computerizing their bookkeeping system. He later volunteered for the Department of Health and Human Services in Gatesville, serving as a receptionist. His dedication and service were recognized by the State of Texas.

Rickey was an avid pool player, musician, sports enthusiast, and lover of music. He was also a devoted cat lover and cherished his beloved cats.

Rickey was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his sister, Sandra Shepherd Cain; brothers, Robert Rusty Mathews and wife Linda, and Michael D. Mathews and wife Eva; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved cats.
