Rick Goins

Rick Goins, 67 formerly of Gatesville, passed on Sunday, February 12, 2023 in Lubbock.

Services to celebrate Rick's life are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at Lake Ridge Chapel in Lubbock.  Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville.  Please visit www.memorialdesigners.net for a service broadcasting schedule and an area to share stories of Rick with his family.

Ricky Ben Goins was born April 17, 1955, to Gene and Imogene Goins in Fort Hood, Texas. He attended school in Gatesville and Hamburg, Germany while his father was stationed with the Army there.  He returned to Gatesville, where he graduated in 1973.  After high school graduation, he attended Central Texas College in Killeen where he aspired to become a veterinarian.  While attending college, he spent his summers salmon fishing in Ketchikan, Alaska.  Following his adventures in Alaska, he returned home and married the love of his life, Karen Powell on June 5, 1976, at Live Oak Baptist Church in Gatesville.

Shortly after getting married, Rick took his first job in the oil field when he was hired by Halliburton and moved to Sonora.  This move began a 46-year carrier in the oil industry that took them from Sonora, to Brownfield, to Lubbock, to Hewitt, to Houston and finally back to Lubbock again. This journey included his rise through the ranks of the oil field from a pump truck driver all the way to running his own consultant business.  At the time of his death, he was working his second stint with Peak Completions as a tool specialist. 

Rick is survived by his wife, Karen Goins; daughter, Krystal Hall and husband Russell of Dallas; son, Kyle Goins and wife Kelli of Howe; grandchildren, Katelyn Horn and husband Luke, Seth Hall and wife Tiffany, Davin Goins, and Scarlett Goins; and a brother Terry Goins and wife Tami.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Imogene Goins; and a brother, Glen Goins.

Memorials may be made in Rick’s honor to the charity of the donor’s choice.
