Richard Sherman, age 75 of Gatesville, passed away on June 10, 2023 at his home.
Richard Cleve Sherman was born on July 15, 1947 in Brownsville, Texas to the late Harold Jay and Frances Gafford Sherman. He was the first in his family to graduate from college, obtaining both a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Texas in Arlington and a bachelor’s degree in medical technology from Southwest Texas State University. Richard spent his professional life as a medical technologist in several different Texas towns and cities. He also served his country in both the Navy and the Army National Guard. Richard was a lifelong learner and spoke Spanish fluently. He continued to educate himself by reading voraciously, studied both the clarinet and piano, and was a licensed ham radio operator.
Richard is survived by his sister, Elaine Saulnier; nieces, Christy Lednicky and Cynthia Velasquez, all of the Austin area. He will be missed by his family and forever in their hearts; and mourned by his friends across the globe. He is also survived by a sister, Emily Miyasato of Lake Chapala, Mexico.
There are no services scheduled for Richard and for those desiring, charitable donations may be made to MarchofDimes.org (who provided Richard’s polio treatment as a small child) or Medico.org (an organization Richard supported.)
