Paula Lightsey Foote

Paula Lightsey Foote, age 80 of Turnersville passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Gatesville.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Scott’s Funeral Home, with Rev. Matt Dossey officiating. Interment will follow at Turnersville Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 12:00 p.m.- 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Paula was born on July 2, 1944, in Gatesville, to the late George Truett and Susie Quesenberry Lightsey. Paula grew up in Jonesboro, Texas and graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1962. Paula graduated from University of North Texas in 1965 with a degree in education. On August 14, 1965, Paula married the love of her life, Sonny Foote. They made their home in Turnersville where they raised their two sons, Than and Joe. Paula taught school in Turnersville until its closure and then served as the secretary at the Turnersville Gin.

Paula dedicated her life to Sonny and her boys, taking care of her family, and working on the family farm and ranch. She was actively involved in the Turnersville and Jonesboro community, volunteering her time to help with 4-H, Vacation Bible School, the Coryell County Youth Fair, and the PTA. Paula was always there to lend a hand for anything happening in the community. One of Paula’s biggest joys was being involved with her grandchildren and their many activities. She also enjoyed spending her time gardening, cooking and canning and passed that love on to her grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with friends and family.

Paula was preceded in death by her husband, Sonny Foote; brother, Joe Truett Lightsey; sister-in-law, Flo Lightsey; sister, Melva Lightsey; and sister-in-law, Cornelia Foote.

She is survived by her sons, Than Foote and wife, Traci; Joe Foote and wife, Crystal; granddaughters, Hallie Foote and Bracy Foote; grandsons, Wade Foote, Truett Foote, and Pate Foote; and sister, Sue Lightsey.
