Ovide Lee Gilmore, Jr.

Ovide Lee Gilmore, Jr., 74, of Gatesville passed away peacefully Thursday, June 30, 2022. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 7 at 3pm at Scott’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Levita Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 6 from 5 to 7pm at the funeral home.

Ovide was born January 15, 1948 in Dallas, Texas to the late Ovide Lee Gilmore, Sr. and Mary Ann Gumbert Gilmore. Ovide was a truck driver for many years. On May 31, 2008 he married the love of his life and soul mate, Hazel S. Drake. They shared almost 8 years together until her passing in 2015.

Ovide was a simple man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved to be outdoors with a glass of iced tea on a hot day. He liked to count deer and go back roading. He built models in his spare time and loved to tell his friends and family about stories of days gone by. Ovide enjoyed a quiet country life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hazel S. Gilmore; his parents; Mary Ann Gumbert Gilmore Jackson and Ovide Lee Gilmore, Sr.; siblings, Raymond George Gilmore, Katie Inez Gilmore Wolf, Doris Ann Taylor Ritchie, Henry Leon Jackson, Elizabeth Ann Cockrum; and a daughter, Tamatha (Tammy) Ann Gilmore.

Ovide is survived by his children; Katrina Lynn Gilmore McIlroy, Amanda Jean Thomas, and Phillip Douglas Lane; siblings, Barbara Marie Gilmore Davis, Sandra Sue Jackson, Mary Elsie Jackson Meshell, and Dianna Lynne Potts; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and his two doggies, Tiny and Chewy.
