Ollie Mae Flake Loggins was born in Three Rivers, Texas to the late James Lewis and Ollie Coble Flake on September 3, 1929.  She went to school in Poteet, Texas and graduated as valedictorian at the age of sixteen.  She met her future husband, Bill Loggins in kinesiology class at Baylor University in 1947. They married in the Emmanuel Baptist Church on March 5, 1948 in Waco.  She graduated from Baylor University with a teaching degree and later received a Master of Library Science degree from North Texas State University.  She began her teaching career in Malakoff, teaching high school Spanish and sponsoring the Spanish Club. She worked the majority of her over 30 year career as a teacher and librarian for the Plano Independent School District. For many years she was involved in the United Methodist Women, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Coryell Retired Teachers, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She was an ardent fan of the Baylor Bears football and women’s basketball.  Ollie loved to travel and her beautiful home was graced with many artifacts from her trips abroad.

Ollie was a remarkable woman whose grace and kindness touched the lives of everyone she encountered. As a devoted mother, educator and woman of faith, she combined those roles with love, patience, and compassion. She was a kind and thoughtful soul and will be missed and remembered by the many lives she touched. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who had the privilege of having Ollie in their lives for so many wonderful years, will miss her deeply, especially her home-baked birthday cakes, delightful stories of her time growing up and her warm and witty words of wisdom which she dispensed with humor and without judgement.

She was preceded in death by her brother, James Flake; and a sister, Kathleen Sissney.

Ollie is survived by her husband of 75 years, Bill Loggins, daughters, Sherry Edwards and husband, Malcolm, Linda Garvey and husband, James, Mary Anne Leib and husband, Tom; son, Michael Loggins and wife, Laura Ferri; sister, Yvonne Rehard; grandchildren, James Hammack, Lauren Grogman, Laura Landis, Jason Garvey, Bethany Bond, Joel Edwards, Micah Alexander, Carrie Garvey, Jeffrey Edwards, Katy Garvey, Annie Loggins and Emily Wuenschel; and twelve great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to United Methodist Children’s Home, 1111 Herring Dr., Waco, TX 76708.
