Norma VanCuran, age 84 of Gatesville, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at a local hospital, surrounded by her family.
The family will announce memorial services at a later date.
Norma June VanCuran was born on March 30, 1939, to the late Bernard and Evelyn Olday Schneller in Buffalo, New York. She grew up and attended school in Buffalo, later marrying Paul VanCuran in June of 1956. She and Paul made Buffalo their home, giving birth to six children. Norma considered herself to be a homemaker, as she loved to take care of her family. She also spent seven years as a Bakery Manager for Burczynski’s Bakery Goods, and another eight years as a receptionist, which eventually led her and Paul to move to Boynton Beach Florida in 1995. Norma and Paul later moved to Texas in 2001.
Norma was a spiritual woman and was very active in her church and Bible studies. She loved her family and continued to keep them close, no matter where they lived. She was also known for her warm personality and showed kindness to anyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul VanCuran; daughter, Laura Dixon; and sisters, Janice Schroeder, and Ruth Innes.
Norma is survived by sons, Donald VanCuran and wife, Melissa; David VanCuran and wife, Jennifer; daughters, Lynn Johns and husband, Tom; Ruth Lang and husband, Edward; Dawn Althen and husband, David; brothers, Eugene Schneller and Donald Schneller; 25 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Purmela Baptist Church, P.O. Box 159, Purmela, TX 76566.
