Norma Irlada Phillips

Norma Irlada (Limmer) Phillips, 93, of Gatesville, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2026, at home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 2, at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville, with Rev. Sam Crosby officiating. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville.

Norma was born on September 13, 1932, in Hamilton County to Herbert and Edna Hohertz Limmer. She grew up in the Hamilton and Aleman areas and graduated from Evant High School. On September 26, 1953, she married Lynn Martin Phillips of Gatesville. The couple made their home in Gatesville throughout their marriage. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1992.

Norma cherished time spent with her family and found great joy in attending the activities and events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved playing all sorts of games, including spirited games of pool volleyball, with her family. She especially enjoyed the weekly get-togethers and games with her long-time ladies’ dominoes group. Her homemade coconut and chocolate pies were treasured family favorites. She was a faithful fan and follower of the Gatesville Hornets for decades.

A devoted member of First Methodist Church of Gatesville, Norma worked many years at the Gatesville State School for Boys and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Vickie; her parents; and her brothers, Curtis Limmer and Leonard Limmer.

She is survived by her children: Cindy Draper and husband Jackie of Gatesville; Susan Hathaway and husband George Hathaway of Gatesville; Mike L. Phillips and wife Brenda of Granbury; Rickey Phillips and wife Charlotte of Gatesville; and Doug Phillips and wife Lisa of Palestine. She is also survived by her sister, Merlene Bartlett of Gatesville; her brother, James “Jim” Limmer and wife Tara of Brenham; along with 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Norma Phillips Scholarship, which will be awarded each May to a graduating senior of Gatesville High School.
