Nola Mae Jurek

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Nola Mae Jurek, who departed this world peacefully on June 3, 2026, at the age of 83. She was in the comforting presence of her family at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas, as she took her final journey home.

A private service will be held at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas, where Nola will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Tommy.

Born on September 25, 1942, in Gonzales, Texas, Nola was the cherished daughter of J.D. and Bertha Stapp. Through her life's journey, she exemplified love, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends. Though the world has lost a gentle soul, Heaven has gained an angel.

Nola was predeceased by her devoted husband, Clifton Glen “Tommy” Jurek, with whom she shared a beautiful life since their marriage on December 6, 1961. Together, they built a legacy of love, kindness, and family values. She was also preceded in death by her father, J.D. Stapp; mother, Bertha Stapp; brother, Jimmy Stapp; and son, William Glen Jurek.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Barbara Ledger, and her husband, Ricky Ging, of Granger, Texas, and her devoted son, Jimmy Jurek of Gatesville. Nola's loving spirit will live on in her granddaughters, Jennifer Jurek and Leslie Brinkley of Gatesville, and Shelby Steele and her husband, Casey of Henderson, Texas. Her legacy continues through her five great-grandchildren: Tryston Lane Brinkley, Adria “Alex” Curry of Gatesville, Krystal Hunt and her husband Harleigh of Fort Drum, New York, Lainie Ingram of Gatesville, and Lydia Taylor of Henderson, Texas.

Nola's life was enriched by her extended family, including sisters-in-law Carole Henderson and her husband Charles of Evant, and Maryanne Jurek of Gatesville. She cherished each moment spent with them, embracing her role as a nurturing sister-in-law.

A dedicated homemaker for most of her life, Nola later found fulfillment working as a laundry technician at Hillside Medical Lodge in Gatesville from 1984 until her retirement. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, with a particular fondness for collecting cardinals, a symbol of her guiding spirit and love for nature. Nola possessed a heart of gold, never meeting a stranger, and her laughter was contagious, bringing joy to all around her. She thrived in the company of family and friends, particularly during holidays, where her warmth and culinary skills shone brightly.

As a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Nola's greatest joy was in raising and nurturing her family. Her legacy will forever be engraved in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered condolences and prayers during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Nola's memory by sharing a kind gesture or warm smile with someone in need. Her spirit will live on in the acts of kindness inspired by her gentle soul. Rest in peace, dear Nola. You have left an indelible mark on this world, and though you are gone, you will never be forgotten.
