Mike Harman

Mike Harman, age 83 of Gatesville, passed away on August 1, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, unwavering faith, honesty, and deep devotion to his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Scott’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Harman Family Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Mike set out on his own at just 17 years old, determined to make his way in the world. Through grit, perseverance, and an unmatched work ethic, he provided for himself and later for the family he loved so dearly. Over the years, he worked in many states across the United States, always willing to go wherever the work took him and never afraid of hard labor.

Mike learned the drywall trade from his brothers-in-law, Earl Daves and J.W. Jones. Through dedication and skill, he built a successful drywall business that provided for his family for many years. Later, he lived and worked on a ranch, where he developed a deep love and appreciation for the land. He and his wife of 60 years, Mary, made their home in Gatesville, Texas, where Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, searching for arrowheads, and raising their children.

One of Mike's greatest passions began in childhood and remained with him throughout his life: collecting and preserving old relics and artifacts. He amassed an impressive collection of treasures he discovered over the years. Beyond collecting, he became highly skilled in the art of flint knapping, spending countless hours practicing and refining his craft to create beautiful arrowheads. He was a wealth of knowledge and wisdom, always eager to share what he had learned with others. After his years on the ranch, Mike found success once again doing dirt work, another trade he enjoyed and took great pride in.

Above all, Mike was a loving, devoted, and fiercely proud father. He would give anything and everything for his children. He will be remembered as an honest man, a loyal friend, a devoted husband and father, and the best Grandad anyone could ask for. His honesty was legendary, sometimes gentle, sometimes blunt, but always sincere. Mike believed in standing for what was right and standing up for what he believed in. He did not tolerate disrespect for himself or others, and he encouraged those around him to hold themselves to the same standard.

Faith was the foundation of Mike's life. If you spent much time talking with him, chances are the conversation would eventually turn to the Lord. Mike loved God and was never shy about sharing what he believed. He spoke openly about living a godly life and found great comfort and purpose in his Christian faith.

As strong and tough as Mike was, those closest to him knew there was another side to him. Put him in a room with his grandchildren, and before long he might be wearing curlers, eyelashes, makeup, or playing dress-up without hesitation. Not everyone who knew Mike had the opportunity to see all the sides of him. But those fortunate enough to spend enough time with him experienced a man unlike any other: strong yet gentle, tough yet tender, unwavering yet deeply loving.

Mike's love ran deep. His wisdom, stories, laughter, strength, and presence will be missed beyond measure. Though his family grieves his loss, they take comfort in the memories he leaves behind and in the faith that guided him throughout his life.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Edith Dickie Harman; son, Earl Harman; granddaughter, Haley Harman; sisters, Billie June Daves and Sidney Jones; and brothers, Donnie “Hoss” Harman, Milton “Rooster” Harman, and Ned Harman.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Sheets Harman; son, Sid Harman; daughter, Bonnie Harman; brother, David Harman; grandchildren, Levi Harman and wife Silvia, Robin Harman, Anthony Harman, Julianna Harman, Alison Casas and husband Daniel, Natalie Jones, Morgan Harman and Mary Kate Harman; and great grandchildren, Jolee Adair, Haize Adair, Bennett Coalston, and Berkley Coalston.
