Michael Eugene McCown

Michael Eugene McCown, age 64, of Gatesville, Texas, passed away on March 30, 2026.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Scott’s Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Moffett officiating. Interment will follow at Osage Cemetery.

Michael was born on October 1, 1961, to Eugene McCown and Nettie Mae McCown. He graduated from Mathis High School in 1980.  Michael was a hardworking and giving man who devoted his life to providing for and caring for those he loved. He spent many years in the propane, energy, and logistics industries and was highly respected in his field, providing guidance and leadership to others throughout the state. Over the course of his career, he worked with companies such as Enron, United LPG, and Enterprise Products, and he owned and operated several businesses throughout his life, including Professional Propane, Highway Pipeline Inc., McCown Enterprises LLC, and High Cotton Logistics and Marketing. Michael’s friend Roland Sanchez worked alongside him for their 40-year career, contributing to the success of many of those organizations, and Michael thought very highly of him. Whether he was building a business, managing operations, or helping others solve problems, Michael was always thinking ahead and creating opportunities for his family.

Above all else, Michael was a family man. His love for his family was constant, and he expressed it through his actions—providing, protecting, teaching, and guiding. He gave advice freely, and there was no need to Google anything—just ask Dad. And if you were headed out the door, you could always count on Dad’s checklist: Got your phone? Got your purse? Need money? Got a charger? Got your glasses? He offered steady support and took pride in being a husband, father, and grandfather. His family and friends will remember his strength, his generosity, and his deep commitment to the people he loved.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Wendy Kay McCown; his sister, Shirley Armstrong; his son, Michael Blake McCown, and his wife, Samantha; his daughter, Patricia Abigail Stouder, and her husband, Dean; his mother-in-law, Marlene Schumacher; and his grandchildren Layla McCown, Evan McCown, Natalie McCown, Lucas McCown, Coy Stouder, and Wade Stouder. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
