Mary Lou Powell, age 85, of Gatesville passed away, Monday, November 23, 2020. A celebration service will be held for the family. Mary Lou Weaver Powell was born January 21, 1935 to Melvin and Ruby Holloway Weaver in Jonesboro, Texas. She graduated in 1952 from Jonesboro High School where she played basketball, was a cheerleader and football sweetheart. She was also given the honor of Coming Home Queen. She later married Robert Lee Powell on June 1, 1952. Mary Lou was a member of Live Oak Baptist Church in Gatesville, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She worked at what was once called the National Bank in Gatesville for 32 years. She loved her job and all her fellow employees. They were family to her. Mary Lou also sold Mary Kay for many years and always had on her rouge and lipstick. Anyone that knew her loved her. They all wanted her to be their mother. Mary Lou is preceded in death by her daughter, Debbera Kay Thompson, her grandson, Sgt Leslie Allen Thomas, a sister, Laura Allen Weatherford, a brother, John Henry Weaver, and her parents Melvin and Ruby Holloway Weaver. Mary Lou is survived by her loving husband of 68.5 years, Robert Powell, of Gatesville, three children, Lucy Angelete Thomas and husband Bob of San Angelo, Texas, Kyle Allen Powell and wife Kelly of Kingwood, Texas, and Karen Lee Goins and husband Rick of Lubbock, Texas, grandchildren, Heather Anne Longo and husband Dan, Angela Kaye Hollon and husband Kyle, Krystal Kay Hall and husband Russell, Preston Kyle Goins and Wife Kelli, Lexi Thawsha Shawn Moreno and husband Justin, Jeremy Latham, Dusty Kunkle and husband Jonathon, Cassie Auflick and husband Austin. Mary Lou also had a total of 13 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Kyle Powell, Ricky Goins, Kyle Goins, Russell Hall, Jimmy Powell, Justin Moreno. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chris Thompson, Larry McDonald, Alan Davidson, Randy Vroman, and Ricky Phillips.
