Mary Ann Gann, age 76, was born on January 20, 1949, in Raton, New Mexico, to Helen Ann Ramsey and Willie Ray Ramsey. She passed away on July 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family after a long and courageous journey. Mary will be remembered for her strong work ethic, unwavering faith, generous heart, and the love she shared with family, friends, and her community.
Graveside services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18 at Greenbriar Cemetery in Gatesville with Pastor Bruce Cox officiating.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Richard Scruggs; sister, Patricia Ann Moore, and great granddaughter, Charlotte Sommerville.
Mary worked for 18 years at Texas Instruments and another 20 years at Laerdal Medical before retiring in January 2017. She was a dedicated and hardworking woman – a trait that she passed down to all of her children. She understood that the mannequins she helped produce were much more than pieces of plastic. They were tools used to train healthcare providers to better care for patients and, in some cases, save lives. She knew the quality of her work mattered and took great pride in doing her job well.
Mary was a longtime member of White Mound Baptist Church and was one of the founders of the Mound Cowboy Church. She was proud to help create a place where people could come to worship just as they were, without worrying about how they were dressed. That mission was very important to her. Prior to COVID, she faithfully attended every service, counted attendance, and helped collect the offering. She found great joy in watching both congregations grow and flourish.
She also served her community by volunteering in the Mound Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
Mary loved her family deeply. When her grandchildren were younger, she attended their events whenever possible, always eager to cheer them on and support them. She especially loved babies and treasured every opportunity to hold and spend time with her great-granddaughters, Eleanor and Madelyn, as well as her great-great-niece, Gracie.
Among her many keepsakes, Mary once wrote that her greatest accomplishment was her children. Those words perfectly reflected her heart.
She leaves behind her children, Danny and Wendy Scruggs, Cathy Bland and Tavis Phillips, and Debbie and Clint Mettlach; grandchildren, Kelsey and Noah Scruggs, Hailey Potter, Bryson and Jessi Loy, Corybelle and Garrett Wolf, Lacy and Micah Somerville, and Casey Cashion; several great-grandchildren and one good dog, Miss Lady Bird Gann-Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your favorite animal rescue organization in Mary's memory.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who supported them throughout this 2½ year journey. Your friendship, prayers, and encouragement meant more than words can express. Special thanks are extended to the compassionate caregivers of Bluebonnet Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to our dear and sassy Mama, Grandma, and Granny.
