Marvin Kunkel, age 83 of Cranfills Gap, Texas, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2025.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery in Aleman. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.

Marvin Earl Kunkel was born on December 8, 1941 to the late Herman Karl and Dora Emma Feldmann Kunkel in Hamilton, Texas. He attended school in Aleman and later graduated from Hamilton High School in 1960. While attending school at Aleman, he met the love of his life, Nola Faye Faubion, and the two were married on December 2, 1961. They made their home in Hamilton before moving to Gatesville. Marvin worked in construction and helped build the Leon River Bridge expansion in Gatesville. He served as the construction superintendent while the Richland Mall in Waco was being built. He also worked for CSS in Gatesville until the passing of his wife, Faye in 1993. Marvin then opened the 5-K Tire Shop in Jonesboro and later in Cranfills Gap, where he met his second wife, Carole Porterfield. They married on August 23, 1997 and enjoyed 25 years together before her passing in March 2023.

Marvin loved the Lord. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and farming and ranching on his family’s homeplace that’s been in the family for more than 100 years. When he was younger, he enjoyed playing softball for the Hilltop Blues, which was team sponsored by the Hilltop Prison Unit in Gatesville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Faye, wife, Carole; sister, Avis; and niece, Caroline Stolley.

He is survived by his son, Leslie Kunkel and wife, Valerie; daughter, Regina Schiller and husband, Darren; step-sons, James Porterfield and wife, Sheri, and Bill Porterfield and wife, Stephanie; grandchildren, Mindi Sharp, Kayla Kunkel, Nolan Kunkel, Dakota Kunkel, Daphne Kunkel, Shelby Bloodworth, Kenzie Bloodworth, Preston Porterfield, Justin Porterfield, Copen King, Brittaney Snoddy, Justin Schiller, Dara Freeman, and Colby Schiller; 25 great grandchildren; and his dog, Chester.
