Martin Pena

Martin Pena, age 60 of Dallas, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023, surrounded by his family.

Celebration of Life services are scheduled for Sunday, September 10, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at Tru Salon, 2715 Fairmount Street, Dallas, Texas 75201.

Martin Felix Pena was born on October 17, 1962, to the late Jose and Dora Roman Pena of Gatesville.  He grew up and attended school in Gatesville, graduating high school in 1981.  After high school, Martin attended cosmetology school in Dallas and then went to work for Toni & Guy Hair Salons.  He worked there for the next 20 years, becoming an art director for the company.  He was also in charge of training other stylists who came to work for the company.  After leaving Toni & Guy, Martin became an independent hair stylist, working for various salons in the Uptown area of Dallas.  His talents earned him recognition in Allure Magazine for being the “best haircut in Dallas”.  He was also selected to do a haircut and style makeover for Ellen DeGeneres and was flown to her studio to appear on her television show. 

Martin, who had lived in Dallas most all his life, enjoyed being there and enjoyed all that the Dallas area had to offer.  He was a very humble person, had a kind heart, and never met a stranger.  He loved trying new restaurants and loved being outdoors, spending time running, biking, and traveling.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Anita Swader.  

Martin is survived by his brothers, Jose Pena Jr and wife, Laura of Dallas, Victor Pena of Gatesville, and Ricky Pena and wife, Beverly of Gatesville; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved Standard Poodle, Coco. 

In lieu of flowers, Martin’s family request memorials be made to Coryell Community Church, 115 N. Levita Road, Gatesville, TX 76528.
