Maria Ramona Sanchez

Maria Ramona Melendez Sanchez, age 77 of Gatesville, gained her wings on the morning of Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at home, surrounded by her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.  Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery.

Maria was born on April 27, 1943 in San Francisco de Conchos, Chihuahua, Mexico to the late Francisco Melendez and Rufina Martell.  She grew up in Mexico, where she lived, until her family moved to Gatesville in 1996.  She had the gift to make friends with every person she met.  She was a great cook and gardener.  She loved to feed her birds and spent countless hours watching her birdfeeders.  She was a devoted Catholic and would Pray the Rosary at least twice per day.  She would always give her blessing to anyone who would talk to her in person or over the phone.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt.  Her family meant the world to her and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ildefonso Sanchez; infant child, Yesenia; infant granddaughter, Christian;  and two sisters, Lupe and Flora.

Maria is survived by her daughter, Dolores Lobo and husband, Luis; son, Jose R. Melendez and wife, Angeles; sister, Agustina Acosta and husband, Manuel; grandchildren, Reyna Melendez, Jorge Medrano, Jose Melendez, Jr., Angel Melendez, Monserrat Melendez, Jose Giral, Jonathan Chavez, Luis A. Melendez; great-grandchildren, Angelina and Kiko Melendez; numerous nieces, nephews and many relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family has designated memorials be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1108 W. Main Street, Gatesville, TX 76528.
