Lucian Dean Keeton “Papa,” 86 of Moffat, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, April 24, 2026, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 1, at 2:00 p.m. at Mound Cowboy Church Pavillion in Gatesville, with Pastor Bruce Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Moffat Cemetery in Temple. The family will receive visitors from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville prior to the service.
Lucian was born on October 2, 1939, to Theodore and Myrtle Alice Keeton. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years. After his service, he worked with E.R. Carpenter for 35 years, retiring as Maintenance Manager. On April 15, 1993, Lucian married the love of his life, Sherrell Jo Keeton. Together, they shared 32 wonderful years filled with adventures—traveling across the country, taking countless fishing trips, and spending cherished time with family and friends. Lucian had a passion for fishing, hunting, building, and teaching others the skills he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Myrtle Alice Keeton, and brothers Herman Darrell Keeton, Samuel Dwight Keeton, and Donald Ted Keeton.
Lucian is survived by his sister, Alice Novella Fellers; his devoted wife, Sherrell Jo Keeton; his children, Ronald Dean Keeton and wife Barbara, Karen Janice Keeton, Michelle Guthrie and husband Rick, and April Cheree Payne. He is also survived by his grandchildren Chris Keeton and wife Lynn, Brandy Gutierrez and husband Ernest, Jerrod Guthrie and wife Michelle, Lori Roberts and husband Jason, Kayla Keeton, Dalton Guthrie, Jordan Payne, and Jayse Payne; 14 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
