Lisa Ann Schermerhorn

Lisa Ann Schermerhorn, age 67, of Gatesville, passed away after a long battle with Frontotemporal Dementia on February 16, 2026.

Lisa was born in Waco, Texas in 1959 to JB and Nada Finkenbinder. She met the love of her life, Steven Schermerhorn, at the McGregor skating rink in high school, and they married in 1978. They proceeded to have three daughters–Rhonda Mills of Altoona, PA, Amanda Fitte of Flat, Texas, and Chelsea Schermerhorn of Girard, PA. Lisa was an avid lover of photography and poetry, and could often be found in nature taking photos or feeding the birds. She had long dreamed of one day writing a book – which became a reality with Anchored in Grace: Verses of Faith and Strength. God was her strength throughout her life. Despite her pain, she shared the love of Jesus with everyone she met and could often be found praying for all those around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harold and Kermit Finkenbinder; and sister, Diane Britton.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Steven Schermerhorn; daughters, Rhonda Mills and husband Charles, Amanda Fitte and husband Jarod, and Chelsea Schermerhorn and husband John Hall; grandchildren, Aaron Mills, Liam Hall, and Kavik Fitte; as well as sisters, Candy Lewallen and Lola Brinegar; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Family and friends will be celebrating Lisa’s life this Sunday, February 22, 2026, beginning at 1:00 p.m. This will be an extremely informal event, intended more to honor and commemorate Lisa’s life and personality through enjoyable fellowship, food and wholesome Christian music. If you feel led to contribute anything, please refrain from flowers and just bring your favorite dish and favorite memory for all to enjoy.
