Linda Leola Howerton

It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Linda Howerton on August 6, 2026. Born on November 23, 1944, in Marlin, TX, Linda was the cherished daughter of Wiley and Eva (Sims) Kessner. She left this world peacefully in her sleep, concluding a valiant battle with dementia. Linda was a beacon of warmth and kindness, whose presence could light up any room. A true people person, she never met a stranger and was always ready to engage in a heartfelt conversation. Her compassionate nature extended beyond people, as she was a devoted caregiver to her beloved dachshund, Maggie, and a gentle steward to the birds that visited her garden. A proud graduate of Marlin High School, Linda pursued further education at Temple Junior College, earning an associate degree that paved the way for her successful 35-year career as a legal secretary at a prominent law firm in Dallas. Her dedication and work ethic earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike, and she was immensely proud of her professional accomplishments. Beyond her career, Linda was an active member of her community. She held a former membership at the First United Methodist Church in Red Oak, TX, and frequently attended services at the First United Methodist Church in Belton, TX. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, providing her with solace and strength. Linda was also passionate about her hobbies, finding joy and tranquility in her flower garden. She was a devoted bird lover, always ensuring that her feathered friends had food and water. These simple pleasures brought her immense happiness and peace.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Jim Howerton and his wife Judy; her granddaughter, Ashley Pittsinger and her husband Preston; and two great-grandchildren, Presley and Paxton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harrell, and her soulmate Jim Howerton. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Hillside Medical Lodge and Amedisys Hospice for their exceptional and loving care during Linda's final days. Your kindness will forever be in our hearts. Linda touched the lives of many, and her legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
