Born on May 30, 1955, to Nelda Courtney and James Oscar “J.O.” Courtney, Linda filled her life with family, creativity, and a deep appreciation for the beauty found in ordinary things.
Linda graduated from Copperas Cove High School in 1973. On June 7, 1987, she married Fred Crandall, with whom she shared more than 39 years of marriage.
Family was at the heart of Linda’s life. She cherished her grandchildren and took every opportunity to be part of their lives. She never missed a stock show and tried to attend every ball game, birthday party, and family gathering she could. She especially treasured time with her youngest three grandchildren, Alice, Alexander, and Riley, whether working in the garden or swimming in the pool on a hot summer day.
Linda’s garden was a reflection of her imagination and resourcefulness. She created a sprawling space from repurposed treasures, seeing possibilities in things others might overlook. That same creativity carried into her artwork. Whether it was an old canoe her grandson Dalton brought to the house or a discovery from one of her backroad adventures, Linda could transform an unexpected find into something uniquely her own. Her love of painting—and her talent for it—came from her mother.
With a camera close at hand, Linda loved riding along quiet country roads in search of her next photograph. Old trucks and weathered windmills were among her favorite discoveries. She found joy in capturing their character and sharing her pictures with everyone. At family gatherings, she could almost always be found behind the camera, preserving the moments and people she loved.
A true social butterfly, Linda never met a stranger. She loved visiting with others, but she also treasured peaceful moments in nature, watching deer and feeding her mama deer by hand in the front yard or hummingbirds from the front porch. And occasionally, the entertainment included watching Dalton chase a goat or two.
Linda is survived by her husband, Fred Crandall; her four sons and their wives, Ryon and Michelle Blankenship, Courtney and Lisa Blankenship, Aaron Crandall and his wife, Andrea, and Justin and Tanna DiMuccio; her two daughters, Kimberly Crandall and Ann Marie Holland and her husband, Paul; her brother, Sammy Courtney and his wife, Cinda; and her sister-in-law, Kristi McGee Courtney.
She also leaves behind 10 cherished grandchildren: Dillon Blankenship and his wife, Kacie; Lacey Carpenter and her husband, Eli; Dalton and his wife, Alanna; Nathaniel Holland; Nicole and her husband, Yahir Ojeda; Daniel Crandall; Natalie Blankenship; Alice; Alexander; and Riley; along with four beloved great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Courtney.
Linda leaves behind a lifetime of photographs, artwork, and treasured memories. Her family will remember her in the beauty of a garden, the sight of an old windmill along a country road, and the everyday moments she taught them to treasure. Above all, they will remember her love and the many ways she showed up for them.
