Joyce Brasher Ashcraft, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, at 8:30 p.m., at the age of 89.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 14, 2025, at Turnersville Cemetery with Pastor Jon Crosby officiating.
Born on August 24, 1935, to Ernestine Laxson Brasher and Wyatt Washington Brasher, Joyce grew up in a home filled with love and laughter alongside her dear siblings—Juanita Snow, Billy Ray Brasher, and Alice Hart. These early bonds helped shape the kind and nurturing spirit that defined her entire life.
On December 3, 1954, Joyce married the love of her life, David Elroy Ashcraft. Their marriage of 41 years was one of unwavering devotion, shared faith, and a deep commitment to family.
A lifelong resident of Gatesville, Texas, Joyce was a dedicated and respected member of the community. Her strong work ethic and gracious heart were evident in her many roles throughout the years, including her time at Southside Sales, the Gatesville Courthouse Tax Office, Gatesville Printing & Office Supplies, and the Gatesville State School for Boys.
Family was Joyce’s greatest joy. She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Gail Ashby and husband Steve, and Tina Newton and husband Howard. She also held a deep and abiding love for Robbie and Ronnie Webster, who were family to her in every way.
Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Heather Ashby Myrick; Stuart Newton and Brooke Newton; and Travis Ashby and Adria Ashby. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy: AJ Ashby, Steven Ashby, Taylor Myrick, Madison Newton, Brooklyn Newton, and River Ashby.
Joyce’s life was full of simple pleasures and cherished traditions. She found delight in playing games with her children and great-grandchildren, traveling to Branson Praisefest each year, and trying her luck at the slot machines. Known far and wide for her famous pound cake and homemade peanut brittle, she generously shared her delicious treats—and her heart—with everyone around her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital, in honor of Joyce’s enduring spirit of generosity and her love for children.
Joyce Brasher Ashcraft will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering faith, and the way she made every person she met feel like family. Her light will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
