Joseph Wayne Loer, age 66, of Gatesville, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 26, 2025.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, at Greenbriar Cemetery.
Joseph was born to Cois Wayne Loer and Joyce Faye Loer on December 31, 1958. Joseph was addressed by many names by different people, depending on who they were, and the relationship they shared with him. Dad, to his daughter and son, Uncle Joe, to many nieces and nephews and their children, Joe to his friends, Joey to his Mom and Dad and Joseph Wayne to his Mom, but only when he needed it. However, the most important was being called “Papa” by his grandchildren, Julian and Olive, who he cherished dearly.
Throughout his lifetime, Joe enjoyed his career as a police officer, construction site supervisor, and heavy equipment operator. He loved bass fishing, only on a fancy skeeter, but the bank would work if he had his Watermelon Candy Brush Hogs. He enjoyed fast cars and mischievous fun in his younger days, also a little in his older days as well. He loved being outdoors more than anything. Fishing, hunting arrowheads, and exploring is where you would find him most days. As he got older, he loved teaching all the kids in the family about the Bible, drawing, and how to sneak candy from their parents. He very much enjoyed being the fun “Papa” and “Uncle Joe” who got to break all the parents’ rules.
Joey is survived by his daughter, Halie Wells and husband, Seth, Joe’s grandchildren, Julian and Olive; siblings, Jimmy Loer, Lorri McDaniel and husband, Jim, Jerry Loer Sr., Jack Loer, and Julie Christian; adopted siblings, Jerry Loer, Jr., and John Loer; as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was welcomed at the Pearly Gates of Heaven with open arms by his dad, Cois and mom, Joyce, and his son, Bubby, ready to lead him to meet his heavenly Father.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Donate Life Texas, a cause Joe held close to his heart due to his son, Joseph Wayne, being an organ donor. Donations may be made online at www.donatelifetexas.org.
