Johnny F. Weaver Sr., age 77, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, at home surrounded by family. A Celebration of Life for Johnny will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9 at Gatesville Country Club.
Johnny was born at Gatesville Memorial Hospital on March 8, 1948, to S.O. and Gladys Weaver. He graduated from Gatesville High School in 1967 and was recruited to play football at Texas A&M University. He spent his freshman year at Texas A&M and then transferred to Tarleton State University, continuing playing football and ultimately graduating in 1975. After graduating from college, Johnny served in the Army from 1975-1977. He then taught school in Gatesville from 1977-1981, but the Army called him back to serve from 1981-1984, where he was stationed in Korea and Fort Bliss before returning home to Fort Hood. During his service in the military, Johnny received a Bronze Star, a Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, Achievement/Commendation Medals, a Purple Heart, and numerous other service medals. After his last stint in the service, he spent seven years working for the Texas Department of Corrections before becoming self-employed. Once he retired, he and his wife Twila Gail Raibourn of 38 years, traveled the United States for a little over six years. Johnny was a faithful worker, and he had a witty sense of humor, living life to the fullest through simple pleasures. He loved playing golf and spent any free time he could on the golf course. Johnny was an active member of Mound Cowboy Church.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents S. O. Weaver Jr. and Gladys Maurine Hollingsworth Weaver and two great grandchildren, Riley Renee and Kenzie Renee.
He is survived by his wife Twila Gail Weaver; children, Michelle Richardson and husband, Seth, John Weaver and wife, Amy, Shannon Treadway, and Marla Richardson; brothers, Benny Weaver and wife, Laura and Danny Weaver and wife, Charlotte; grandchildren, Emma, Libby, Bree, Reese, Brittany, Landon, Natalie, and Troy; great grandchildren, Evelyn, Twila, Nikolas, Raylen, Skylar, Waylon, Chloe, Sadie, Raelee, and Mattie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
