Johnny Daws Benson

Johnny Benson, age 70 of Gatesville, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Coffey Cemetery with Rev. Jess McCabe officiating.  

Johnny Daws Benson was born on February 8, 1954, to Darrell and Juanita Graves Benson.  He grew up and attended school in Gatesville, graduating from Gatesville High School in 1973.   After graduation, he worked as a carpenter and in construction.  He married Vickie Sims on February 25, 1977, and the two made their home in Gatesville.   They had two children, Coy and Laci.   Johnny continued to work in construction, working for Baird Williams Construction as a Superintendent.  He ultimately retired in 2019.  Johnny enjoyed team roping, playing the guitar, and building various projects.  He loved to be the center of attention and enjoyed being around his family and friends.   More than anything, he enjoyed telling stories.    

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Edward Joe Benson.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie of 47 years; son, Coy Benson and wife, Mindy; daughter, Laci Benson; brother, Bo Jones and wife, Beverly; and grandchildren, Gavin and Dylan Hartman, Tannon Benson, Layken Benson, Haleigh Newcomb, and Dawson Joe Benson.
