Johnny (J. R.) Latham

J. R. Latham, age 88, of Gatesville, went to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his family, Sunday, May 23, 2021 in Gatesville, Texas.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 PM, Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Turnersville Cemetery with Rev. Ken Laney and James Baize officiating.  The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the funeral Home.

J. R. was born, March 8, 1933 in Turnersville, Texas.  He was the son of the late Johnnie Robert Latham and Hazel Huskerson Latham.  He married his high school sweetheart, Nina Humes on September 28, 1951.  J. R. was a farmer and rancher for many years.  He also retired from TDCJ in 1995 after 32 years of service.  He was a member of Live Oak Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He loved spending his retirement years with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Willie Buster.

Survivors include, wife; Nina Latham, daughters; Shirley Buster and Beverly Sparks and husband Kevin, sons; David Latham and wife Stephanie and Kyle Latham and wife Lori, brother; Oscar Latham, grandchildren; Jason and wife Brooke, Jeremy, Erin, Tyler and wife Shelby, Sarah, Brensyn, Sarah and husband Greg, Jadyn and K. C., great grandchildren; Lucas, Lilly, Reagan, Rowan and River, and a very special niece, Marilyn Karl and other numerous nieces and nephews.
