Jimmie Lynn Gilbreath Davis was born on August 28, 1941, to the late Jim F. and Martha E. Wolff Gilbreath in Gatesville. She attended New Olive School in Leon Junction, completing the 1st and 2nd grades, that same year she was promoted to 3rd grade and her family moved to Hamilton. At age six, Jimmie began piano lessons with her mother. Later, their family had a gospel quartet where Daddy sang bass, Mother sang tenor, Jimmie sang alto and played piano, and little sister Jeanie sang soprano. At age eleven, when she was in the 7th grade, Jimmie accepted Jesus into her heart and was baptized in the Cow House Creek near Gatesville.

Jimmie played women’s basketball in junior high and high school and was also a high school cheerleader. She graduated from Hamilton High School as Valedictorian at age 16 and at 17, she enrolled in Hillcrest Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Waco, where she excelled and was honored as Student Nurse of the Year. After graduating from nursing school, she went to Texas Christian University, playing women’s basketball and volleyball, and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Jimmie married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Hugh Wayne Davis, on February 2, 1963. God blessed them with three wonderful children, Lisa, Blake, and Cole. After 20 years of marriage, Hugh was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver and Jimmie was left to raise their children, ages 12,16, and 18. She drew strength and comfort through her faith and trust in God and worked as a nurse for 52 years. During her career, Jimmie served in many capacities including charge nurse, Director of Nursing at Coryell Memorial Hospital, 3-to-11 prison nurse, and school nurse for the Gatesville I.S.D. She was also an Investigator-Nurse-Supervisor for the State of Texas and worked in Quality Control for Region I. She was an accomplished pianist, and the pianist for Eastwood Baptist Church and First Baptist Church while living in Gatesville. When she moved to Hewitt, she and her sister, Jeanie, served as dual pianists at Stonegate Church, where they so enjoyed playing elaborate offertories. When she moved to Lewisville, she attended Valley Creek Church and opened her home as a group leader and member of the “Golden Girls.”  She served the Lord in many ways including teaching Sunday School classes, working with children’s choir programs, volunteering at V.B.S. and church camps, and as a church group leader and prayer warrior.

Jimmie loved fiercely and the joys of her life were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She moved to Lewisville in 2013 to be close to her children. One of her greatest joys was watching her youngest grandson playing across the street and being part of his life. She had incredible relationships with all four of her grandchildren and her two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugh Wayne Davis; Jeanie’s twin and baby brother, Ronald Ned Gilbreath.

Jimmie is survived by her daughter, Lisa Davis; sons, Blake Davis, Cole Davis and wife, Patty;  grandchildren, Sydney Davis, Makynzie Duley and fiancé, Matt Morrison, Ethan Davis and wife, Miranda, and Camden Davis; her two adorable great-grandchildren, Archer Duley and Chloe Davis; sister, Jeanie Johnson and husband, Tom Johnson; her nephew and his wife, Jordan and Tiffany Johnson and their son, David; her niece and husband, Jalayne and Jeff Rinewalt, and their children, Kyndal and Jonah; her brother-in-law and his wife, Charles and Jane Davis, and their children, Debbie, Diane and Carolyn; along with countless friends and extended family, all whose lives have been forever changed by knowing Jimmie.
