Jerry Lynn Henshaw

Jerry Lynn Henshaw, 73, of Seymour, Texas, passed away on October 28, 2026, in Gatesville, Texas, following a long illness. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and stories that will be cherished by those who knew and loved him.

Jerry was born on January 27, 1953, in Haskell, Texas, to Otis and Ruby (Ejem) Henshaw. The oldest of three children, Jerry grew up in Seymour, Texas, a community he called home. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1971, where he proudly played football and participated in track as a Seymour Panther. Following high school, Jerry attended Texas Tech University before beginning a successful 30-year career in telecommunications with GTE/Verizon culminating in retirement in the Dallas–Fort Worth area in November 2003.

Jerry enjoyed life's simple pleasures—hunting, fishing, an ice-cold Coors Light, and cheering on his beloved Texas Rangers and Texas Longhorns. Every September 1, you could find him hunting dove and quail with the Henshaw boys, followed by deer hunting and fishing as the seasons changed. Known for his stubborn streak, Jerry was happiest doing things his way, but beneath that hardheaded exterior was a man who loved his family, enjoyed a good laugh, and lived life on his own terms, right up until the end.

Family held a special place in Jerry's heart, particularly his only daughter, Jodie. The time they shared created memories that will be treasured forever. During Jerry's illness, one of the surest ways to bring a smile to his face was a visit from Jodie with his beloved granddog, Marley. No matter how he was feeling, Marley's visits had a way of brightening his day. And knowing Jerry, Marley may have been one of the few who could get away with telling him what to do.

Jerry is survived by his daughter, Jodie (Henshaw) Edmond, and her husband, Jon, of Gatesville, Texas; his granddaughters Preslea Edmond of Lubbock, Texas and Maysea Edmond and great-grandson Blayze of Gatesville, Texas.

He is also survived by his sister, Peggy (Henshaw) Jovanovich, and her husband, Bo, of Tyler, Texas; their daughters, Amy Quarles and husband Ross of Lubbock, Texas, and Ashley Ash and husband Jared of Sulphur Springs, Texas; his brother, Jim Henshaw, and wife Jamie of Knoxville, Tennessee; and their children, Jameson Henshaw and wife Hollie of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Jordan Henshaw and wife Alison of Freeport, Maine. He also leaves behind numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, extended family, friends, and his beloved granddog, Marley.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Ruby Henshaw.

Jerry will be remembered for his unwavering determination, his love of the outdoors, his loyalty to his favorite teams, and his ability to keep everyone around him on their toes. While his family will miss him dearly, they take comfort in knowing that somewhere, Jerry is probably enjoying a cold Coors Light, watching a game, and insisting that he knows exactly what he's talking about.

The family would like to extend appreciation to the Hillside Medical Lodge in Gatesville, Texas, Coryell Memorial Hospital and Bluebonnet Hospice, as well as Jan Taylor, all of whom were with him right until the end.

Family and friends will gather for a celebration of Jerry's life in January 2027. Additional details will be announced later. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Little League International.
