Jadeine Smith West

Jadeine Smith West (Mama Jay), age 89, of Flat, passed away Monday April 8, in Gatesville.  Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2019 at Scott’s Funeral Home chapel with Brother Bruce Cox officiating.  Burial will follow at King-Smith Cemetery near Mound.  Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 Thursday, April 11, 2019. Jadeine was born September 16, 1929 in Flat, Texas to Roy Bird and Opal Halcomb Bird.  She attended school in Flat graduating from Flat High School in 1947.  Jadeine was a member of The First Baptist Church of Flat.  She enjoyed working with her Livestock, selling vegetables and dancing.  She especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Rufus C. Smith Sr., her parents, three sisters and two brothers. Jadeine is survived by her children, Rufus C. Smith, Jr. (R.C.) and wife Jennifer, Patricia Cole and husband Roy Dean, Andy Smith and wife Sally, Kathy Smith and husband Joel, David Calvert Smith and wife Jennifer and Angelia Cudd and husband Larry; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.   The family would like to thank Hillside Medical Lodge and Providence Hospice for all their loving care.
