Jack Shafer, age 74 of Gatesville, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at North Belton Cemetery, in Belton, with Dr. Eric Moffett and Pastor Terry Hill officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 8, 2023, at Scott’s Funeral Home.
Jack Lanis Shafer was born August 6, 1948, to the late Elvis Lanis and Mattie Inez Robinson Shafer in Belton, Texas. He grew up and attended school in Belton, graduating from Belton High School in 1967. He then attended trade school, where he studied automotive drafting. In 1969, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska for two years. Jack then went to work for the family business, where he refinished and installed both commercial and residential hardwood floors for 45 years. He later moved to Gatesville in 2012.
Jack was a handyman and could fix just about anything. He loved to dance to country music and loved to watch old Western and Hallmark movies. He was a hot rod and American Muscle enthusiast and enjoyed being outdoors, cooking on the grill, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Shonkwiler and husband, Jeff; son, Chad Shafer; sister, Sandra Johnson and husband, Preston; brother, Bobby Shafer and wife, Leslie; grandchildren, Trey Shonkwiler; Brock Shonkwiler and wife, Alaina; Jeffrey Shonkwiler and wife, Ali; Adrienne Piedra and significant other, Austin Lerma; Brianna Shafer and significant other, Shawn Ferguson; Cari Shafer; great-grandchildren, Tristan Ferguson; Waylon Shafer; Zachary Bilbrey; nieces, Machell Tompkins; Angie Mayes; Jade Shafer; nephews, Chuck Green; Heath Green; Rhenn Wright; and Cole Shafer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Big Sting, 3417 Imperial Dr., Gatesville, TX 76528
