Jack Carpenter, age 86 of Arlington, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Ireland Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Ireland Church of Christ, with James Carpenter officiating.
Jack Elliotte Carpenter was born on June 13, 1937 on the Leon River, near Ireland, Texas. He was the son of the late Asa Owen and Ruby Drake Carpenter. He later moved near Jonesboro on the Leon River. He was told that his grandfather looked at him and told him “If you ever learn to talk, your father will send you to the fields.” Jack attended school in Jonesboro and worked on the farm. He later moved to Ector County and worked in the oil field. He served in the United States Army for two years in the 1960’s. After his discharge, he moved to Arlington and worked 25 years for General Motors in the United Autoworkers Union until his retirement. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, visiting cousins in Oklahoma and New Mexico, old farm machinery and airplanes. Jack became a Christian at an early age and attended the Church of Christ in Arlington, Bellmead and Ireland.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Opal Faubion, Jewel Dean Ware, Janie Woodson; brothers, Addran Carpenter, Jim Carpenter, John Carpenter and William Drake Carpenter.
Jack is survived by his brothers, Joe Carpenter and Jeff Carpenter.
