Janell Malden, age 65 of Gatesville, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday August 20, 2025 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 29, 2025 at Scott’s Funeral Home, with Pastor Matt Dossey officiating. Interment at Restland Cemetery will immediately follow the service. The family will welcome visitors Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home.
Iva Janell Malden was born August 15, 1960 in McKinney, Texas to Kenneth and Beulah Malden. She was the 2nd oldest of four children. She attended Glen Rose Elementary School before moving back to Gatesville with her family around her freshman year of high school. She worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and later for Gatesville Printing where she retired after 20 + years. Since then, she has worked at the Junction on Route 36 and Gatesville Pickers Estate Sales.
Life will never be the same without “Nana”. She was the life of the party, witty, quick on her feet and always had a good come back. You could always hear her in the stands cheering for her grandchildren at every sporting event she attended. Every time you came to visit, she would always try to feed you with a home cooked meal. She had such an unforgettable presence and personality; she never met a stranger and was always willing to drop everything to help her family and friends.
She restlessly took care of her mother when she needed her. Her boys were her pride and joy and she could not have been any prouder of the men they turned out to be. She raised them to be hard working, reliable, and honest family men.
Nana had two green thumbs. She loved working in her yard and tending to her plants. No one’s house was as clean and tidy as hers. She could never have dreamed of the lasting impact her legacy would leave behind. Her grandchildren describe her as fun, amazing and awesome. Her sister would describe her as energetic, outspoken and loving. Her boys would say she is loved and irreplaceable.
She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Malden; and sister, Peggy Perez. She is survived by her mother, Beulah Malden; sons, Herman Martin and wife, Angie, and Joey Martin and wife, Lisa; grandsons, Hunter and Rhyder; granddaughters, Addie and Emma; sister, Debbie Buster and husband, Kenneth; brother, Danny Malden and wife, Alice; and many loved aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
