Hugh Richard Penny was born in Leon Junction on January 20, 1931, to the late Odis and Velma Whittenburg Penny. Richard received his heavenly mansion on November 3, 2026. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at the Pearl Country Church.

Richard was raised on the Royalty Farm and graduated from Flat High School in 1950. He served in the United States Marine Corp as a chaplain’s assistant. He was a member of the Bee House Masonic Lodge #550 A.F. & A.M. Richard worked as a shop foreman for training aides at Fort Hood.

Richard married Edna Ruth Hampton on February 10, 1956, and this year they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Penny; his parents, Odis and Velma Penny; brother, Perry (PL) Penny; and sister, Helen Hill.

Richard is survived by his sister, Margaret Blanton; brother, Carrol Penny; children, Connie Long; Don and Leora Penny; and Mike Penny; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and many loved ones.
