Hugh Milton “H.M.” Lam, age 91, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mound Cemetery. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.
H.M. was born on May 31, 1934, to the late George and Ola Lam and was one of 9 siblings. He grew up in O’Donnell, Texas. H.M. married the love of his life, Loy Rae Adkison, on January 9, 1953. They spent a short time together in Beaumont and Port Lavaca before returning to Gatesville later that year to start their life and family together.
Their partnership was a beautiful testament to love and devotion and they were blessed with a daughter, Daphne and three sons, Buddy, Mark and Marshall. Family was everything to H.M.; he was able to have a career in construction with his brothers allowing him to do what he loved and support his growing family. He thrived in the company of his loved ones, creating cherished memories through countless camping trips and travels that broadened their horizons. H.M.'s greatest joy came from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with whom he shared special moments that will forever be etched in their hearts.
An avid fan of music, H.M. found joy in playing instruments and singing, filling homes and hearts with his melodies. His love for farming demonstrated his connection to the land and taught his family the importance of hard work and perseverance. Everyone in the family grew up with a passion for fishing, hunting and loving the outdoor life. Sports was another love of H.M.’s, bringing together family and friends as they cheered on their favorite teams. With his love of sports also came his amazing ability of coaching others to love the game as much as him.
Throughout his life, H.M. also had a great love for pets, welcoming many furry companions into his home over the years. Their playful presence brought him joy and comfort.
H.M. lived a life well lived and his legacy is reflected in the love he shared and the memories he created. He will be profoundly missed but remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
H.M. was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son; Marshall Lam, daughter; Daphne Bogle, daughter-in-law; Brenda Lam, granddaughter; Vicky Lam Callaway and multiple siblings.
He is survived by his sister, Jeanette Baize; sons, Buddy Lam, Mark Lam and wife, Lola; grandchildren, Alisa Gregory and husband, Philip, Mark Moore and wife, Melanie, Cade Shoaf, Finace Bogle and wife, Renee, Rachel Hernandez and husband, Josue, Marsha Bogle and fiancé, Paul, Dustin Lam and wife, Stephanie, Stephanie Glass and husband, Jack; and many great grandchildren.
