Herman Wesley (H.W.) Hardie, Jr., age 75 of Gatesville, passed away on Thursday, May 8, with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 24 at 11:00 a.m. at White Hall Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Barron officiating. Burial will follow at Turnersville Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the home of Patrick Hardie starting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, 508 Coryell City Road, Gatesville, Texas, 76528.
Herman was born on August 1, 1949, in Gatesville, Texas to the late Herman and Fannie Hardie. Herman grew up and attended school in Gatesville, graduating in 1967. After high school, Herman enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for 10 years and 8 months, ending his service in 1979. Herman served two tours in Vietnam while stationed in Thailand. After serving in the Air Force, Herman returned to Gatesville where he met Kimberly Merwald. They later married and welcomed their son, Patrick, into the world.
Herman attended Tarleton State University and graduated in 1987 with a degree in diesel mechanics. In the years that followed, he continued his passion for agriculture by farming, working at numerous nurseries and gardening. He and Kimberly later divorced. Herman then met his loving wife, Rhonda in 2007 and they married on May 16, 2010, and were together until his passing.
Herman enjoyed farming, reading books, and spending time with his family. He was the definition of an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents; and ex-wife Kimberly Giger (Gee).
He is survived by his wife Rhonda; son, Patrick Hardie and wife, Larisa; grandchildren, Stormi Strange and husband, Jesse, Peyton Hardie and Sophia Hardie; and great grandchildren, Aspynn Strange and Maddix Strange.
In lieu of flowers or memorials, the family requests that donations be made directly to Scott’s Funeral Home to assist with final expenses.
