Herman Wayne Hamilton, 73, of Gatesville, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, in Temple, Texas, surrounded by the love of his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at the American Legion Post 42 in Gatesville.
Herman was born on September 26, 1952, in Gatesville, Texas, to Wilton J.D. “Jake” Hamilton and Joy Hamilton Perryman, both of whom preceded him in death.
A proud graduate of Gatesville High School’s Class of 1971, Herman served his country in the United States Army beginning in 1973. He went on to work for Waco Police Department, Amco Oil and West Cabinet Shop before retiring.
He was known for his spunky personality, quick wit, and ability to make people laugh no matter the situation. Herman never met a stranger and could turn an ordinary conversation into a memorable one with his humor and storytelling.
Herman had a deep love for classic cars, Harley-Davidsons, and especially his beloved fur family, who brought him endless joy and companionship over the years. Whether he was joking around with family and friends or admiring a beautiful car or motorcycle, Herman lived life with personality, grit, and heart.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lynne Drake Hamilton; his daughters, Dawn Hamilton-Holden and husband David, and Dusti Gann-Walker and husband Shawn; and son, Mood Junior Gann.
Herman was a proud grandfather to Landon Holden, Lane Holden, Madilyn Holden, Latham Loecken, Joey Ritz, and Rylie Sims, all of whom brought tremendous pride and happiness to his life.
He is also survived by his sisters, Tana Nance and husband Steve and Karen McCutcheon and husband Bill, along with numerous extended family members and friends who will miss his humor, stubborn spirit, and the love he shared so freely.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing Herman is now pain free and at peace. The memories, laughter, and love he gave so many will never be forgotten.
