Helen LaVeta Fahlsing

Helen LaVeta Garnett Fahlsing of Flat passed away Friday, December 23, 2022 at the age of 78. No local funeral services will be held. She will be laid to rest at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa, Iowa at a later date.

Helen was born April 28, 1944 in Maquoketa to the late Edward Reed and Helen Elizabeth (Botkin) Garnett. Helen served in the US Army, was active in the Women’s Army Corp, Women’s Army Nurse Corp, and the U.S. Navy Reserves. She earned her Master’s degree in nursing and worked as the Director of Nursing for many years at TDCJ in Gatesville. Helen was also a past member of St. Marks Episcopal Church in Maquoketa, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Robert Fahlsing; and his sons, Joseph Michael Fahlsing, John Robert Fahlsing, and Robert Clark Fahlsing.

She is survived by her sister, Bea Niblock of Iowa; brother, Lee Niblock of Florida; niece, Alissa Spencer, her husband, Sam and daughter Evelyn of California; former sister-in-law, Constance Cameron of Florida; and friends, Brenda and Samantha.
