Hazel Hodges, age 82 of Gatesville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
Celebration of life services will be held at a later date.
Hazel Levorn Hodges was born at home in Bell County on November 23, 1942, to the late William and Lizzie Gober Stubblefield. She was one of fourteen children. She attended school in both Moody and Flat, Texas before meeting the love of her life, Dean Hodges. They were united in marriage on July 20, 1962, and made their home in Gatesville. She started her career working in food services with the Gatesville Independent School District in 1976, retiring 26 years later in 2002 as a housekeeper. She also spent many summers working in housekeeping for Coryell Memorial Hospital. Hazel loved spending time with her grandchildren, cooking for others, and sharing her recipes with family and friends. Her favorite pastime though, was going fishing at the river and taking care of her prized chickens.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 47 years, Dean Hodges; son, Ben Hodges; brothers, Floyd Stubblefield, Lloyd (Skeeter) Stubblefield, William (Bugs) Stubblefield, Bob Stubblefield, Averil (Sugarman) Stubblefield, Loyal Stubblefield, Len Stubblefield, and Wayne Stubblefield; sisters, Patsy Jane (Cricket) Stubblefield, Dee Etta Whisenhunt, and Mildred Young.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Tippit and husband, Dee; son, Curtis Hodges Sr.; sisters, Lena Guill, and Alice Whisenhunt; six grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
